because you see when he was thinking of temperature frog he was close to the metaphor of boiling a frog but a bit of aphasia and then there's that frog in my basslog blog trapped in the window [it took me finally going to get the frog out of there myself for it to freak out and escape on its own] and boiling the frog is both a metaphor for how you couldn't quite put your finger on this metaphor and also a metaphor for how i dredged up that highly specific reference just for some satisfying wordplay. this is, however, an ordered thought, and it doesn't belong in this thread at all; ever so sorry |

that i distract myself from my distractions and part of distracting myself over DATA VINYL was a sort of dalek brain-suck from wikipedia on data storage itself. history, encoding, oddities. then i'm lost laughing about DecTalk again and i discover some crappy album using it and... one my favorite "i don't need this i should stop but i am in love" bits was reading about helical scan in VCRs. that the tape head is at an angle so instead of going across in lines the tracks on the tape are read as a set of diagonal lines and this is why VHS feels like it does when you press pause, the tape has stopped moving but the head is still spinning and reading the same bit of tape over and over repeatedly, giving you that sense that it's still bit somehow also not still |
