i think he is contracted as aphex twin still, though he can

Because the whole electronic music fanbase was all in a
dither over Richard's 'falling out' with WARP, the rumours,
all that tripe that spewed forth back then - it was all a
marketing excercise designed to sell a few more records,
just like his 'retirement' after Windowlicker shot up the
value of his releases.
